Our Story

This idea was created for the Global Solutions Sustainability Challenge - a virtual exchange initiative that supports workforce development in the U.S., Iraq, and Jordan. Our team consists of students and professors from the Lone Star College in the United States and Al-Balqa Applied University in Jordan. Our mission started with trying to find a sustainable solution for one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the UN for peace and prosperity on our planet. We chose to create a solution to improve quality education. We created this website with the mission to facilitate the exchange of affordable books, to host virtual study groups, and tutoring sessions. Although we are working locally in our colleges in Jordan and the United States, we hope to expand all over our countries and countries around the world. Join us on our mission for quality education for everyone!

How the Book Exchange Works

​

1. Students search for the book they are interested in on the Buy/Rent Books Search Bar.

2. When a student finds a book, they must create an account to buy or rent the book.

3. Once the account is created, students can contact the book owner through their account.

4. The book owner delivers the book to a drop-off area.

5. The buyer can pick up and pay for the book from the drop-off area.

6. If the book is rented, the student has to return it in a certain amount of time. If the student bought the book, then no return is needed.

How the Study Groups/Tutoring Works

• Students can open the study group feature to schedule a virtual study group with other students taking the same course.

• A student can choose to study virtually with local students or students internationally.

• Students can open the tutoring feature to schedule a virtual tutoring appointment for a specific subject with an approved tutor. 

• Tutors can earn exclusive professional badges that can be added to their profile or LinkedIn. They can also earn volunteer hours. *Need to apply to be a tutor*

• ​​If a student cannot find a book on their database, they can request it and they will be notified when the book is available to buy or rent.​​

• Every purchased or rented book comes with a free highlighter as a thank you for joining us on our mission!

• Students from Jordan can change the language of the website to Arabic. We hope to have even more language features as we expand.

• Students who sell or rent their books can earn exclusive professional badges that can be added to their profile or LinkedIn.
